Imbonerakure Day celebrations to be held in Bujumbura August 17; heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions expected

A march celebrating the Imbonerakure, the youth wing of the country's ruling National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD) party, will take place in Bujumbura on Saturday, August 17. Hundreds of participants are expected to gather at the CNDD-FDD headquarters at 9:00 (local time) and march to Place de l'Independence. Similar marches and related celebrations are possible nationwide.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, such as road closures and traffic congestion, are to be expected in the area.
