Warning

Event

Floods, landslides, and power outages have been reported in Puerto Rico on Wednesday, September 25, following Tropical Depression Karen's passage near the island. Road closures and other transportation disruptions are therefore to be expected throughout, though especially coastal roads. A power outage has affected an estimated 29,000 homes. Public services will resume on Wednesday, though schools remain closed. Precautions are still advised due to the ongoing flooding, and rain is forecast to continue into Wednesday.

Associated power outages and disruptions to transportation and business services may continue in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by the system are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
