Warning

Event

Recurring power outages have been reported in the capital Nouakchott from Tuesday, October 8, through Wednesday, October 9. According to SOMELEC, the national electric company, the blackouts were caused by a breakdown with the high-voltage line from the Manantali hydroelectric dam in Mali. According to media reports, large portions of Nouakchott were without power on the morning (local time) of Wednesday. SOMELEC technicians were deployed to repair the line on October 9; however, further power disruptions are possible in the coming days.
