Warning

Event

Protesters gathered in Oaxaca City (Oaxaca state) on Friday, August 7, to demonstrate against remote studying measures introduced amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Reportedly, the new measures prevent students who do not have internet connectivity from gaining access to education and important exams. Protesters have gathered in the vicinity of the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University Benito Juárez (UABJO), blocking traffic on the Chapultepec Avenue. The demonstration was organized by members of the Coordinadora Estudiantil Normalista del Estado de Oaxaca (CENEO), which brings together students from 11 schools in the area. The group gathered on Friday for the third time to demand that school admission exams are carried out in person instead of online.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in the vicinity of protests.

Advice

Individuals in Oaxaca City are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
