Anti-government protests are occurring in various areas of Sulaymaniyah, Dec. 6. The latest action constitutes the fifth consecutive day of protests condemning deteriorating economic conditions in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

Demonstrations have been reported in at least the Piramagrun and Takiya sub-districts, with protesters having set fire to the headquarters of both the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union Kurdistan (PUK) political parties. Protesters have also blocked a number of roads with burning debris.

Security forces are deployed to disperse the protests and will likely remain in the area into at least early Dec. 7. Clashes between police and protesters are possible. Additional gatherings could occur over the coming days; ground travel disruptions are likely near any future protests that may materialize.
