Officials plan strict COVID-19-related movement controls in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from Feb. 11-23. International entry ban continues.
Event
Officials are continuing various domestic and international controls in response to COVID-19 activity, with a strict lockdown planned in Ulaanbaatar from Feb. 11-23. Officials will ban all nonessential travel in and out of Ulaanbaatar during the lockdown period. All nonessential businesses will be closed and gatherings banned. Authorities will also suspend most public transport services within Ulaanbaatar for the duration of the movement controls. Lockdown measures may be extended or applied to additional areas in Mongolia in the coming days.
Authorities are also imposing highly localized lockdown measures in residential buildings and businesses that have reported COVID-19 exposure. Residents, employees, and patrons of specified locations are required to undergo COVID-19 testing and must quarantine until receiving negative test results. Officials impose mandatory testing and quarantine requirements without prior notice.
Other domestic control measures continue. The government continues to require all people to wear facemasks in public, and demonstrations remain banned nationwide. Working hours at government offices remain restricted.
Travel Restrictions
An entry ban on most foreigners remains in place; only Mongolian nationals and permanent residents can enter the country. International arrivals are required to quarantine in government-run facilities at their own expense for 14 days. Travelers must also undergo a subsequent 14 days of self-quarantine.
Authorities continue to ban international commercial flights; only repatriation services are operational. International rail passenger transport remains suspended. Goods are generally allowed to move through border checkpoints, though intermittent closures of land borders are likely to continue.
