Warning

Event

Workers affiliated with the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) plan to protest in Johannesburg, June 3 and 4. The action is in support of and to demand that Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers be provided with permanent positions by the Health Department. On both days, demonstrators will gather from 09:00 at Beyers Naude Park. On June 3, memorandums of demand will be delivered to the Office of the Premier and the Department of Treasury. On June 4, the same demands will be delivered to the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) and Head of Department (HOD) of the Health Department in Gauteng. Hundreds of people are likely to participate in the action.

Police are likely to deploy to monitor the gatherings. Ground travel delays are likely as protesters march to and from various end points. Confrontations between protesters and the police are possible if demonstrators are overly disruptive, engage in acts of public violence or refuse to disperse.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Plan for ground travel delays in the impact area during the mornings of June 3 and 4.
