Lebanon: Activists plan to protest at Port of Beirut Oct. 4
Activists plan to protest at Port of Beirut, Lebanon, from 17:00 Oct. 4. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Event
Activists plan to protest near Gate 3 of the Port of Beirut from 17:00 Oct. 4 to demand justice for victims of the August 2020 port explosion. Protesters allege that politicians are obstructing the investigation into the blast that killed at least 200 people and wounded some 6,000 others. Dozens to hundreds of individuals could attend the demonstration.
Authorities will almost certainly increase security to monitor the protest. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the Port of Beirut the evening of Oct. 4. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
Advice
Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel and leave the area immediately at the first sign of any confrontation. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the affected area Oct. 4.
