Warning

Event

Activists plan to protest in Beirut, Oct. 17. The protests will coincide with the anniversary of 2019 large-scale protests initiated in response to planned increased taxes that later evolved into calls for political reform. Demonstrators plan to march in the city and will bypass several areas, including the Palais De Justice, Sodeco Square, the Ring Bridge, Association Des Banques Du Liban, and Martyr's Square. The start time is not clear. Hundreds to thousands of people could participate in the demonstrations.

Heightened security measures are likely near all protests. If demonstrators are overly disruptive or engage in acts of public violence, clashes with the security forces are possible. Security force deployments and protests are likely to result in short-term localized ground travel delays.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Plan for ground travel delays in the impact area through Oct. 17. Heed the instructions of the security forces.
