Unidentified assailants attacked a police outpost near Tehini, Bouna Region, Oct. 19. One security force member was reportedly injured in the incident before they repelled the attack. At least one assailant was killed. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of Oct. 20. An investigation is underway to determine the identity of the attackers.
Authorities may increase security patrols in the area in the coming days. Further attacks are possible.
Context
There is a heightened terrorism threat in northern Cote d'Ivoire. Militants operating in the wider Sahel region are active in the area and have demonstrated an intent to target the country in the past. A bomb explosion targeting a security outpost occurred near Tehini June 12. Attacks against the military occurred in Kafolo and Tehini in late March.
