Informational

Event

Members of the Rastafarian community plan to protest at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on King Street in Kingston Feb. 24. The purpose of the gathering is to condemn a DPP ruling not to charge a police officer for allegedly cutting the hair of a Rastafarian woman while she was in custody. Attendance at the demonstration probably will not exceed a few dozen participants.

Security forces will likely deploy to monitor the protest. Localized road traffic disruptions are possible in the vicinity of the DPP Office building.

Advice

Avoid the immediate vicinity of the DPP until the demonstration has ended and the participants have vacated the area. Reconfirm all business appointments with the DPP slated for Feb. 24; allow extra time to reach destinations near the court complex on King Street.
