Activists affiliated with the Arise Ghana anti-government movement plan to protest in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Aug. 22. The action aims to denounce socioeconomic issues, including rising taxes and fuel prices, and demand authorities dismiss charges against protesters arrested in a related demonstration in Accra June 28. Organizers have yet to announce specific gathering times and locations. Possible gathering sites include outside government buildings and the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters. Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely around protest sites. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible; at least 15 police officers sustained injuries during the June 28 protest in Accra. Authorities also arrested 29 protesters.
