Due to adverse weather, officials have suspended operations at several ports in southern Uruguay and reported disruptions at Carrasco International Airport (MVD) in Montevideo Aug. 26. At MVD, at least two international arrival flights and one departure flight have been cancelled and several flights are being redirected of 08:30. The ports with suspended operations as of early Aug. 26 include the capital's Port of Montevideo as well as the ports of Carmelo, Camacho, Conchillas, Buceo, Piriapolis, Santiago Vazquez, and Buena Vista.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia, INUMET) forecasts that adverse weather that could disrupt air and maritime travel will continue through at least Aug. 27. Lingering disruptions are likely after the weather clears as authorities attempt to clear passenger backlogs at MVD and Montevideo's ports.
