Officials have reopened the Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge border crossing, connecting Myanmar's Kayin State and Thailand's Tak Province, as of Jan. 16. The border will open daily from 06:00-18:00; only licensed vehicles will be allowed on roads from Mae Sot Town, Tak Province to Myawaddy Township, Kayin State. Travelers with proper documentation can stay in the Mae Sot area for seven days. Authorities previously closed the border in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and postponed its reopening due to armed conflict in Myanmar following the military coup in 2021.
