At least 33 people were injured after two passenger trains collided in Recife (Pernambuco state) on Tuesday morning (local time), February 18. The incident occurred at Iparanga Station around 06:00 when one of the trains rear-ended another that had come to a complete stop. An investigation into the collision is underway, though a signal failure is believed to be the cause. 

Lingering delays and cancelations are to be expected across the rail network over the coming hours.
