Event
At least four militiamen were killed in clashes which erupted overnight on Tuesday, November 24, into Wednesday, November 25, between Mayi-Mayi fighters and Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) troops in Beni territory (North Kivu province). The security personnel were reportedly on patrol in the Mabasele district in the territory when the clashes occurred. Weapons and ammunition were recovered by the FARDC troops.
Further clashes in the area are possible in the near term.
Context
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the area.
