At least 27 activists of the People's Peace Movement (PPM) have reportedly been kidnapped in the evening (local time) of Tuesday, December 24. A PPM convoy of six cars was reportedly travelling on the main highway from Herat to Farah provinces when the vehicles were stopped by suspected Taliban militants and taken to an unknown location. The Taliban have not immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.

Similar incidents are to be expected in Afghanistan over the near term.

The Taliban have previously accused the PPM of being financed by Kabul's government.
