Gunmen reportedly kill 21 and abduct nine in Fatika district (Kaduna state) February 11; increase in security measures expected

According to a local source, a group of unidentified gunmen assaulted the village of Giwa (Giwa local government area) in Kaduna state on Tuesday, February 11 at 16:00 (local time). At least 21 people were killed and another nine abducted in the attack.

Additional security forces have been deployed into the region to find the gunmen and maintain security. An investigation into the attack is ongoing as of Thursday, February 13.

Similar attacks are possible in the region over the near term.
