Russia: One dead after gas explosion near Moscow April 4

One person killed and several injured after gas explosion outside of Moscow on April 4; avoid the area

One person has died and another four were reportedly injured following a gas explosion in the town of Orekhovo-Zuyevo, located just outside of Moscow, on Saturday, April 4. Reports state that the gas explosion occurred in a five-story residential building, prompting the evacuation of the surrounding area while emergency services attended the scene. A further ten buildings in the area are said to have been damaged in the explosion.

The incident took place during stay-at-home orders from authorities, who are trying to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be expected over the coming hours.
