Nigeria: Suspected herdsmen attack communities in Kaduna state January 13

Suspected herdsmen have attacked at least ten communities in the Chikun and Brinin Gwari local government areas (LGA) of Kaduna state since Monday, January 6. According to local officials, at least 35 people have been killed and another 58 abducted as of Monday, January 13. The bandits have reportedly established communication links with the families of the kidnapped victims and are demanding a ransom for their release. Farmland in Chikun and Brinin Gwari was also destroyed during the attacks. On Wednesday, January 8, unidentified gunmen also kidnapped four students from a Catholic seminary. Local community leaders are calling on the state and federal governments to immediately provide assistance for the affected families and to improve security in the region.

Further attacks are possible in Kaduna state over the near term.
