Italy: Adverse weather conditions, disruptions continue October 30

Adverse weather conditions continue to cause transportation disruptions throughout the country October 30; flight disruptions at Genova Airport

Warning

Event

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been affecting the country since October 28, and have left at least eight people dead as of Tuesday morning, October 30. Flying debris, flooding, and landslides have caused severe road traffic disruptions; in Venice, water levels rose to an unusually high level, impeding circulation in various parts of the city. Flights at Genova International Airport (GOA) have been suspended until at least 14:00 (local time) on October 30.

Further transportation disruptions and power outages are expected throughout the day. Orange weather alerts for strong winds and heavy rainfall remain in effect for eastern and central regions.

Advice

Individuals in affected regions are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
