Egypt: Schools close in several cities due to heavy rain February 25

Classes and schools close across the country due to heavy rain on February 25; transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

Schools and universities have closed across the country on Tuesday, February 25, due to heavy rains. Media reports indicate that the rains have been affecting the country since the early morning hours (local time) on Monday, February 24.

Associated flooding and transportation disruptions cannot be ruled out over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, avoid areas directly hit by flooding, allow additional time to travel, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities or their home governments.

Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded. Be aware that the risk of contracting water- and mosquito-borne diseases tends to rise after periods of heavy rainfall.
