Warning

Event

At least three civilians were killed and several houses looted during an attack by suspected Cooperative Development Group of Congo (CODECO) rebels in Djugu territory (Ituri province) on Saturday, November 21. The attack reportedly took place in the village of Abulma 1 in the Banyali-Kilo sector, after unidentified gunmen entered the village and opened fire indiscriminately. Security operations are likely in the vicinity of the incident in the coming days.

Further attacks by armed groups are possible across the region over the medium term.

Context

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.

Advice

Those in Ituri province are advised to remain vigilant for rebel and militia activity, monitor developments, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
