Warning

Event

On Thursday, February 13, Tanzania's weather agency issued a weather alert warning about heavy rainfall and subsequent flash flooding that is forecast to affect at least 12 regions across the country, including the capital Dar es Salaam, through Saturday, February 15. The affected regions include Rukwa, Mbeya, Songwe, Njombe, Ruvuma, Pwani, Tanga, Kigoma, Tabora, Iringa, Morogoro, and Mafia and Zanzibar islands.

Infrastructure damage and associated business and transportation disruptions are possible in areas forecast to be affected by rain and flooding over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before setting out, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
