Around 8000 fishermen from 22 provinces gathered in front of the Agriculture and Cooperative Ministry in Bangkok on Tuesday, December 17, to demand that government eases fishing restrictions and addresses labor shortage in the sector. Protesting fishermen warned for further rallies through at least Wednesday, January 15, 2020, if their demands are not met.
Similar rallies are possible in the coming weeks. A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of all protests.
Individuals in Bangkok are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, avoid discussing sensitive political topics in public or online, and obey all instructions issued by the local government.
