Official confirm at least 14 dead in shootout in Villa Unión (Coahuila state) on November 30; investigation ongoing



The governor of Coahuila, Miguel Angel Riquelme, announced on Saturday, November 30, that at least 14 people were killed in a shootout in Villa Unión (Coahuila state), which is approximately 60 km (37 mi) from the US border. The incident took place around midday (local time) and fighting lasted approximately one hour. Of those killed, four were policemen and ten were suspected drug cartel members. At least six additional police officers were injured. Local authorities have seized several weapons and have asked individuals as of Saturday to remain in their homes and avoid the area. An investigation is ongoing.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions, including road closures, are expected in the affected area.
