Thailand: Storms kill two and flood over 3000 houses April 16 /update 1

Storms continuing from Monday, April 12, have killed two people and flooded 3269 houses across the Northern, North-Eastern, and Eastern regions as of Thursday, April 16, according to media reports. Bangkok and the Central region have also experienced storms, though less severe. The damaging weather system has caused strong winds, heavy rain, flash floods, tornadoes, and hailstorms.

The Thai Meteorological Service expects storms to continue throughout April 16 and Friday, April 17. Storm warnings issued on Tuesday, April 14, remain in effect for Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, and Tak provinces in the north, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces in the east, as well as Uthani Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi in central Thailand.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid open areas, tall trees, and insecure buildings. Residual transportation disruptions, additional flooding, and associated damages are possible in the affected area in the coming days.
