Warning

Event

A fire fight broke out between Indian security forces and suspected militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir state on Sunday, April 5. According to an Indian army spokesman, five militants and three soldiers were killed in the gun battle. The incident reportedly erupted when armed assailants attempted to infiltrate from the Pakistani side of Kashmir into the Indian-controlled part.

Further security operations and fighting between armed groups and security forces is likely in the coming weeks and months.

Advice

Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
