Kenya: Death toll rises from landslides in the northwest November 24 /update 2

According to local officials, at least 56 people have been killed by landslides in West Pokot County as of Sunday, November 24. Heavy rainfall has been impacting the region since Friday, November 22, causing flooding and mudslides and leaving roads inaccessible. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing as of Sunday evening (local time).

More rainfall is forecast in West Pokot County over the coming days, which may cause additional landslides. Consequent transportation disruptions are to be expected in affected areas over the near term.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
