Landslides leave at least 13 people dead in Kigali February 3; additional landslides remain possible over the coming days

As of Tuesday, February 4, heavy rain and associated landslides, have left at least 13 people dead. The adverse weather conditions have hit Rwanda's capital Kigali since Sunday, February 2. According to the Ministry of Disaster Management, the death toll is likely to rise, as search and rescue efforts continue in the area.

Additional rainfall is forecast in the capital over the coming days and weeks, which may prompt more landslides. Consequent transportation disruptions are to be expected in affected areas over the coming days.

Individuals in Kigali are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid landslide-affected areas, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
