Warning

Event

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for north-western Scotland due to heavy rains forecasted in the region from Wednesday, December 4, through Friday, December 6. The alert, issued at 06:00 (local time) on Wednesday, is expected to remain in effect until 12:00 on Friday. The agency forecast heavy rainfall of 10 cm (4 in) over a 30-hour period and wind gusts of 105 kph (65 mph) in the Highland.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
