Warning

Event

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued severe thunderstorm warnings at 19:00 (local time) on Tuesday, December 24, for multiple locations in Queensland including: the Central Highlands, Coalfields, Central West, Capricornia, Wide Bay, Burnett, and Southeast Coast districts. Damaging winds, hailstones, heavy rainfall and associated flooding are likely in southeast areas of the territory, including in the Beaudesert and Springbrook areas. Further heavy rainfall up to 100 mm (4 in) is forecast over the Gold Coast in the evening.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions and power outages are possible over the coming hours.

Advice

Individuals in Queensland are advised to monitor local weather reports and to avoid areas directly affected by flooding and confirm road conditions before departing. Furthermore, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
