South Africa: Road closures in Cape Town due to State of the Nation address February 12-13

Transport disruptions scheduled in Cape Town February 12-13 due to State of the Nation address; heightened security presence and road closures expected

Government representatives announced that several roads in Cape Town's CBD will be closed in the evening (local time) of Wednesday, February 12, and on Thursday, February 13, due to the annual State of the Nation address scheduled on February 13. The Opening of Parliament will take place at 19:00 on Thursday and a rehearsal is scheduled for 18:00 on Wednesday. A list of road closures and parking restrictions can be found here.

A heightened security presence and other transportation disruptions, including route diversions, are expected throughout the city. Opposition protests and demonstrations are also anticipated.
