Health employees to hold a nationwide 24-hour strike on November 18; avoid associated demonstrations as a precaution

Health workers across the country plan to hold a nationwide 24-hour strike on Wednesday, November 28, to demand improved working conditions and higher salaries. According to media sources, members of the Uruguay Medical Union (Sindicato Medico del Uruguay, SMU) and the Internal Medical Federation (Federacion Medica del Interior, FEMI) are planning to take part in the strike action.

Associated demonstrations should be expected in the capital and in other urban centers across the country. Protests hotspots including outside hospitals and government buildings, and in main public squares and parks in urban centers. Localized travel disruption and a heightened security presence should also be anticipated in the vicinity of all protests.
