Indonesia: Heavy rains and landslides kill three in South Sulawesi province April 4

The South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, and West Sumatra provinces have experienced heavy rains, associated floods, and landslides on Saturday, April 4, through Sunday, April 5. In the South Sulawesi province, disaster authorities reported at least three people killed in a landslide in South Makale district on Saturday. Buildings were also damaged and at least 20 homes were evacuated while some roads were closed. In the East Kalimantan province, rainfall overflowed rivers affecting 2258 people across four villages. Meanwhile, in the West Sumatra province, two people are still missing. On Tuesday, April 7, meteorological authorities forecast moderate rain episodes in the South Sulawesi and East Kalimantan provinces.

Heavy rain, flooding, landslides, and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
