Zambia: Youth activists to hold peaceful protest in Lusaka June 22

Youth activists schedule peaceful demonstration in Lusaka on June 22 to denounce alleged corruption and police brutality, among other issues; avoid all gatherings as a precaution

Youth activists have called for protests in Lusaka on Monday, June 22, to highlight several issues, including corruption, freedom of speech, and alleged police brutality. Participants will reportedly gather at 11:00 (local time) at the Main Post Office before marching towards the National Assembly building at around 14:00, where protesters will remain until 16:00. The organizers have vowed to proceed despite being denied an official permit for the event, while the ruling Patriotic Front party's youth wing has threatened to hold a counter-demonstration on the day.

A heightened security presence is expected around protests sites and clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement are possible.

Individuals in Lusaka are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
