The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck some 232km (144mi) east of Levuka on Tuesday, October 6. The quake struck at 22:11 (local time) at a depth of 628.5km (67mi). There have been no immediate reports of casualties or infrastructural damage and no tsunami warnings have been issued.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g., under a table), move away from windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is immediate danger.
