France: Deadly flooding and transportation disruptions in the southeast as of November 25 /update 1

Event

Heavy rainfall and flooding have left four dead in the southeastern Var department, as of Monday, November 25. One person is reported missing, while hundreds of houses have also been damaged. Heavy rainfall has impacted the region since Friday, November 22. Several rivers have reportedly burst their banks, leading to significant infrastructural damage. As of Monday, several roads in the area remain closed to traffic, and according to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol), operations at Cannes - Mandelieu (CTT) and La Môle - Saint-Tropez (LTT) airports are disrupted until further notice due to flooded runways.

Further disruptions to transportation and business services are possible in the coming hours and days in the affected areas.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before setting out, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
