Warning

Event

Members of the "Noo Lank" civil society group have called for a demonstration in Dakar on Friday, February 28, against the rise of electricity costs in Senegal. Protests will also call for the release of an activist arrested in a related protest on Friday, November 29.

According to the movement's coordinator, participants are expected to gather at 15:00 (local time) in front of the Total petrol station, located near the de la Foire roundabout, and march to the Liberté 6 roundabout.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near any demonstration site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Dakar are advised to monitor developments of the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
