Warning

Event

Madrid will host the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) at the IFEMA from Monday, December 2, through Friday, December 13. The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday, November 27, that border officials will implement internal border controls from 00:00 (local time) on Thursday, November 28, through to 00:00 on Saturday, December 14. Representatives of the COP25 have said that they are coordinating with government officials, UN security officials, and various police bodies to ensure the security of the event. This includes establishing a perimeter cordoning off the IFEMA, as well as specific security measures and an increased police presence inside the venue.

Associated demonstrations may take place in Madrid during the conference. Transportation disruptions, including road closures and increased traffic congestion, along with crowded conditions and an increased demand for accommodations are also likely.

Advice

Individuals in or traveling to Madrid are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions near the COP25 venue, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
