According to the Ministry of Public Security, at least three policemen and one protester were killed amid clashes over land disputes in Dong Tam near Hanoi on Thursday, January 9. Protesters reportedly attacked security forces near a military airport using hand grenades, petrol bombs, and knives.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the near term. Further clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
