6.0-magnitude earthquake strikes west of Jayapura (Papua province) January 19; no tsunami warning immediately issued

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.0-magnitude earthquake around 141 km (87 mi) west of Jayapura (Papua province) on Sunday, January 19. The quake struck around 01:38 (local time) at a depth of 33 km (20 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties, and no tsunami warning has been issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
