US: Severe storms forecast across southern Great Plains January 10-11
Severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes forecast across the United States' southern Great Plains January 10 and 11; winter weather expected in northern states

The National Weather Service warned that severe thunderstorms, with accompanying hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes, are expected in central and southern Arkansas, northeast Texas, northern Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, northwest Mississippi, and southwest Tennessee states beginning in the afternoon (local time) on Friday, January 9, and continuing overnight to Saturday, January 10. Storms are expected to shift southeast on later on Saturday, affecting Georgia and Alabama states. Meteorologists have advised individuals in the abovementioned areas to turn on their smartphone weather notifications, as they may only have a short time to react to fast-moving storms.
The storm system is expected to bring significant snowfall to Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Maine states from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Freezing rain may affect parts of the lower Michigan peninsula and northern New York state, with accumulation of up to 2.5 cm (1 in).
Associated power outages and disruptions to transportation and business services are possible in areas forecast to be affected by the storm system over the coming days.
