Singapore: Heavy rain, flash flooding closes roads Nov. 11

Heavy downpours cause flash flooding along major roads on November 11; more rain expected in coming days

Warning

Event

Heavy downpours caused flash flooding and closed key roads on the afternoon (local time) of Sunday, November 11. Authorities closed sections of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) in Geylang, including at its interchange with the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). The flooding comes a day after flash floods in the northwestern neighborhoods of Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Batok.

As of November 11, Singapore has received nearly half its average monthly total for November and more rain is expected in the next two weeks. Given existing ground saturation and high water levels in drainage systems, further flash flooding and consequent road closures are possible in the near term.

Advice

Individuals in Singapore are advised to monitor local weather reports and anticipate temporary road closures and increased traffic congestion.
