Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding brought by Tropical Storm Herold on Monday, March 16, have killed four people and left 3200 others affected in the northeastern part of the country as of Wednesday, March 18. The Sava region has been the most affected, including the districts of Antalaha, Maroantsetra, Anjanazana, Mahavelona, and Andranofotsy.

Associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, infrastructure damages, and power outages, are likely in the affected areas over the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
