Event

Anglophone separatists reportedly fired on a passenger jet upon its approach to Bamenda Airport (BPC) on Sunday, December 1. The plane reportedly landed safely and no casualties were reported. Separatists have cautioned that they would fire on passenger planes if airlines do not confirm flight schedules in advance; the separatists have claimed that such planes have been used to transport weapons and soldiers.

Similar incidents are possible in the Anglophone Northwest and Southwest regions over the near term.

Context

Cameroon's English-speaking Northwest and Southwest regions remain tense due to an ongoing separatist movement and conflict between armed groups and the government. Strikes, unrest, and related incidents of violence have become common since November 2016 and have escalated since October 2017.

Advice

Individuals flying via BPC are advised to monitor sociopolitical developments and contact their airline for more information.
