Rwanda: New visa regime implemented as of March 10

A new visa regime went into effect for those traveling to Rwanda on Tuesday, March 10. According to official statements, travelers from more than 90 countries, including members of the African Union, the Commonwealth, and la Francophonie may now obtain a free 30-day visa upon arrival at Kigali International Airport (KGL).

The countries concerned by the 30-day visa on arrival notably include Australia, France, Luxembourg, Monaco, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The new visa-regime also grants a free 90-day visa for countries such as Angola, Benin, the Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d'lvoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Mauritius, Philippines, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sao Tome and Principe, Singapore, Qatar, and the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis. This is conditional upon possession of a valid passport.

Citizens of the East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Tanzania) will be issued a free entry visa to stay up to six months on Rwandan territory.

The immigration office says that citizens of countries not mentioned in the list will continue to receive a 30-day visa upon arrival without prior application. They will be required to pay a prescribed visa fee.
