Canada: Extreme cold warnings issued in the west January 12

Parts of western Canada under extreme cold weather warning on January 12; avoid prolonged outdoor exposure



Authorities have issued extreme cold warnings for large swaths of western Canada on Sunday, January 12, likely to remain in effect for most of the week. A government website indicates that, "wind chill values of minus 40 to 50 °F (minus 40 to -45.5°C) will continue through most of the week. Some brief moderation in wind chill may occur during the afternoon hours." The alert is in effect in large parts of Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, and Yukon, as well as in Newfoundland and Labrador and north Quebec.
