Uganda: Anti-corruption march and countermarch scheduled in Kampala December 4

Government organizes anti-corruption march in Kampala on December 4, while opposition leader plans counterprotest; heightened security presence and associated disruptions expected

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is organizing a march against corruption in Kampala on Wednesday, December 4. Participants, including President Musevini, plan to gather at 08:00 (local time) at the Constitutional Square and then march to Kololo Independence Grounds in the city center. Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has called for a countermarch on the same day. Supporters are planning to meet at 12:00 at the headquarters of the People's Government at Katonga, and head to Constitutional Square. Representatives of the opposition party announced on Friday, November 29, that similar activities are due to simultaneously take place in all districts around the country.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected along all march routes.

Individuals in Kampala, and Uganda more generally, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, allow additional time to travel, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
