Passenger train traveling from Jinan to Guangzhou derails in Chenzhou, Hunan province at approximately 11:40 (local time) on March 30; rail disruptions possible over the coming hours

A passenger train traveling from Jinan to Guangzhou derailed in Hunan province at approximately 11:40 (local time) on Monday, March 30. According to initial reports, the train derailed between Matianxu and Qifengdu stations in Yongxing County, Chenzhou. The train driver collided into a landslide despite activating the emergency brakes, causing the first section of the train to catch fire and about four carriages to derail. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the area, and injured employees and passengers have been conveyed to the hospital.

Some residual rail disruptions are possible over the coming hours.
